Punjab Police has foiled an alleged cross-border terror conspiracy by busting two Pakistan's ISI-backed terror modules operating in Amritsar and arresting nine people, including four juveniles. Police recovered four petrol bottle bombs, three illegal pistols, nine live cartridges and a stolen motorcycle allegedly used to carry out criminal activities. The operation was carried out by the Amritsar Commissionerate Police as part of the Punjab government's ongoing drive against terrorism and organised crime. Read Full Story Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav said preliminary investigations revealed that the arrested accused were acting at the behest of foreign-based ISI handlers, who were attempting to recruit local youth for terror-related activities. ACCUSED CONDUCTED SURVEILLANCE OF SECURITY The accused were allegedly tasked with conducting surveillance of security installations, procuring illegal weapons and creating public unrest.
The arrested accused have been identified as Vansh Kumar (19), Anmol Singh alias Sahil (20), Harman Singh alias Hammu (24), Sukhdev Singh (30), Sukhman Singh (19) and four juveniles. Vansh Kumar and Anmol Singh are residents of Patti in Tarn Taran district, while Harman Singh, Sukhdev Singh and Sukhman Singh belong to villages in Amritsar district. According to the DGP, the investigation also uncovered the installation of surveillance cameras near railway tracks, with footage allegedly being shared with foreign handlers. POLICE PROBING LARGER NETWORK Police are now probing the larger network to identify other members, establish forward and backward linkages, trace financial transactions and determine whether the module was involved in other terror-related activities. Sharing operational details, Amritsar Commissioner of Police Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said police teams first intercepted Vansh Kumar and a juvenile accomplice based on specific intelligence inputs.
A country-made.32 bore pistol and three live cartridges were recovered from their possession. Their interrogation led police to Anmol Singh alias Sahil, who allegedly supplied the weapon. Further investigation revealed that financial transactions linked to the installation of surveillance cameras were allegedly carried out through Paytm by inmate Sukhdev Singh on the instructions of fellow inmate Harman Singh alias Hammu. Both accused, who are lodged in Central Jail, Amritsar, were brought on production warrants and formally arrested. EVIDENCES HANDED OVER TO RAILWAY POLICE Police have also handed over Anmol Singh, his associates and the CCTV cameras installed along railway tracks to the Government Railway Police (GRP) for further investigation. Police said Harman Singh and Sukhdev Singh are already facing an Arms Act case registered at Police Station Rajasansi in which four Glock pistols were recovered from them.
