A 28-year-old woman from Nagpur has alleged that she was trafficked to Portugal and sold to a beer shop owner for sexual exploitation after paying Rs 11 lakh to a Pune-based overseas recruitment agency that promised her a supermarket job in Europe. Based on her complaint, Pune Police have registered a case against seven people, including four accused in Pune and three in Portugal, and launched an investigation into the alleged overseas job fraud and human trafficking racket. Read Full Story The FIR was registered at the Airport Police Station after the woman approached the Pune Crime Branch following her return to India. The accused named in the case have been identified as Pratima Bhati, Amit Kumar Jha, Azhar Shaikh and Kapil Mishra from Pune, and Vamsi, Chaitanya and Himmat Singh, who are reportedly based in Portugal. According to the complaint, the woman came across an Instagram page of a migration consultancy called "We Migrate" in December 2025 while searching for jobs abroad. The consultancy operated from an office at Phoenix Marketcity in Viman Nagar, Pune, and allegedly displayed videos of candidates celebrating foreign work visas.
She alleged that the agency assured her of a cashier’s job in a supermarket in Portugal with a salary of Rs 1.5 lakh per month, an eight-hour workday, two weekly holidays and a three-year work permit. The complaint said the accused demanded Rs 11 lakh for visa and job processing, which she paid in instalments. In March 2026, she was called to the agency’s office for what was described as a job confirmation celebration and was made to sign documents, but was not given copies. The woman left India on May 21, travelling from Mumbai to Abu Dhabi and then to Madrid. HOW SHE WAS TAKEN TO PORTUGAL She alleged that she was instructed to meet a man identified as Vamsi, who later took her to Portugal. Another accused, Chaitanya, allegedly escorted her to a house owned by Himmat Singh. She told police that her passport was taken away soon after she arrived and that she was confined to a room for two days.
She further alleged that she had to pay Rs 40,000 before the passport was returned. The complainant alleged that she was later taken to Odemira in Portugal and informed that she would stay there until her residence permit was processed and that the promised supermarket job would follow. Instead, she was allegedly made to work at a beer shop owned by the man with whom she had been staying. The woman told police that two other Indian women, one from Rajasthan and another from Haryana, were living in the same house. They allegedly informed her that they too had been brought to Portugal on the promise of legitimate employment but were later forced to satisfy the demands of the employer. According to the FIR, on June 27, the beer shop owner allegedly sent her to work at his residence. Around the same time, one of the accused in India allegedly told her over the phone to keep the employer happy until her documents were processed.
