Actor-turned-politician Kangana Ranaut on Friday struck a different tone on youth and Generation Z people, praising the younger generation as a source of strength and pride for the country, days after triggering controversy by describing them as “generation gutter." While speaking outside the Parliament during the ongoing Monsoon session, the Mandi Lok Sabha MP dismissed attempts to paint an entire generation with the same brush, saying only “10-15 people" were abusing or misrepresenting the whole generation, while the larger section of Gen Z continued to contribute positively to the country.

Ranaut said the actions of a small group should not be used to judge an entire generation. “Gen Z is a part of the government. It is their mandate, which our government has been fulfilling for so many years. Gen Z are great. It’s not like the 10-15 people who are abusing Gen Z are Gen Z," she said as quoted by news agency PTI. She said she was happy that young Indians were connecting with the country’s cultural identity and described Bhagwat’s experience and wisdom as valuable for the younger generation. Ranaut also praised the participation of youngsters in various causes, pointing to student protests in Jharkhand and athletes who had won medals for the country.

While praising Gen Z, Ranaut also said young people should demonstrate their commitment through constructive participation beyond social media. She questioned whether the younger generation would come forward for initiatives such as Environment Day campaigns or support for handloom weavers. Ranaut said such participation should be a better measure of young people’s contribution than social media controversies. ‘Generation Gutter’ Remarks Triggered Row Ranaut’s latest remarks mark a sharp departure from comments she made around a week ago, when she criticised young protesters associated with the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP)-led agitation over the NEET-UG paper leak and alleged examination irregularities. In a series of Instagram posts, she described sections of the protesters as “Generation Gutter" and accused some young women participating in the demonstrations of seeking independence without accountability. She also criticised the language, slogans and social media content associated with the protests, calling some of the videos and Instagram reels “puke-inducing". Ranaut had specifically targeted young women involved in the protests, arguing that genuine independence required financial and personal responsibility.
