Rapid Read Tan Kim Her with Satwik-Chirag (Picture credit: Instagram @kimhertan) India’s men’s doubles coach Tan Kim Her has said that he and his players would like to take it ‘one match at a time’ when the BWF World Championships get underway in New Delhi on August 17, adding that although he analyses which pair has an easier or tougher route to the title, he doesn’t impart those thoughts to the players.
The draws for the World Championships were conducted on Wednesday in New Delhi, with India’s seeded doubles pairs getting byes in their first rounds. While India’s best bet in doubles is Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, the men’s doubles duo of MR Arjun-Hariharan Amsakarunan and the mixed doubles pair of Dhruv Kapila-Tanisha Crasto can also be backed for a longer run. Fifth seeds Satwik-Chirag are expected to take on the Thai duo of Chaloempon Charaoenkitamorn and Worrapol Thongsa-Nga in the second round. Hariharan and Arjun will face Ireland’s Scott Guildea and Paul Reynolds. A win against the Irish pair will pit the Indian duo against 15th seeds Kang Min Hyuk and Ki Dong Ju. “Yes, of course, but I don’t want to look too far ahead. We take it one match at a time. We know every team knows how to play, so nothing comes easy. We have to be prepared," Tan Kim Her said while replying to a query from News18 Sports during a media interaction at the World Championship draw. “I have my plans, but I don’t reveal everything to the players. I speak to them individually and share the plans one-on-one," Tan Kim Her told the media. Meanwhile, Satwik-Chirag, who ended their title drought by winning the Singapore Open Super 750 in June, have been handed a first-round bye after being seeded for the tournament. “His (Satwik’s) shoulder is almost fully recovered now. He is ready now.
He has gone under rehab. I think now he is improving a lot. Of course, the rehab is still there, but he is getting much better. Chirag is fully 100 per cent fit," Tan said.
