(PTI Photo/File) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday praised Uttar Pradesh’s record-breaking tree plantation drive under the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign, describing it as an example of “extraordinary collective resolve" and saying it was a matter of “special pride" for him as the Member of Parliament from the state. Speaking during the 136th episode of Mann Ki Baat, the Prime Minister referred to Uttar Pradesh’s Podhropan Mahayagya-2026, under which more than 350 million saplings were planted across the state in a single day on July 12.
“The state had demonstrated an extraordinary collective resolve, with more than 350 million saplings planted in a single day on July 12. As the Member of Parliament from Uttar Pradesh, this was a matter of special pride for me," Modi said. Highlighting the broader significance of the campaign, the Prime Minister said, “People across the country are fulfilling their responsibility towards nature through the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign. When society comes together with such a spirit, it creates inspiring and exemplary outcomes." He also underlined the ecological importance of afforestation, noting that trees provide shelter not only to humans but also to countless other living beings. Urging citizens to make environmental conservation a personal commitment, Modi said, “A small sapling planted today can become a legacy of greenery, clean air, and a brighter future for generations to come." He appealed to people to mark special occasions in their lives by planting a tree in their mother’s name.
Reacting to the Prime Minister’s remarks, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath thanked him in a post on X, saying the recognition reflected the state’s commitment to environmental conservation. “Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s mention of Uttar Pradesh planting more than 350 million saplings in a single day under the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign is a recognition of the state’s collective commitment to environmental conservation and the historic success of public participation," Adityanath wrote. The Chief Minister added that Uttar Pradesh had demonstrated how a society committed to protecting nature could contribute to the vision of a ‘Viksit Bharat’. He said the state would continue to strengthen the national mission of environmental conservation, public participation and green development under the Prime Minister’s leadership.
