Thousands of Punjab government employees gathered at Sector 39 in Chandigarh to hold a massive sit-in protest against the state government over long-pending demands. Protesters, representing around 100 employee associations under a joint forum, demanded an 18% Dearness Allowance (DA) release as per recent High Court directions, reinstatement of the Old Pension Scheme, regularization of temporary staff, fulfillment of Sixth Pay Commission recommendations, and the cancellation of specific central scale letters.
Protesting leaders warned that the combined strength of eight lakh employees and their families represents over forty lakh votes, cautioning the ruling party of severe political consequences in upcoming elections if their grievances regarding pay scales and pensions are not immediately resolved.
