A massive sinkhole measuring 20 feet wide and 30 feet deep opened up in the Kichlu Nagar area of Ludhiana, Punjab, following heavy rainfall. The road collapsed in the residential area, causing a tractor trolley to sink into the crater and sparking panic among local residents.
The incident occurred after red and orange alerts for heavy rain were issued across the state. Municipal Corporation Joint Zonal Commissioner JS Sekhon launched a probe into the incident as authorities cited a decade-old sewerage system weakened by digging for internet and cable lines as the likely cause.
