In a complaint lodged with the Sirohi Superintendent of Police, Sugna Devi said that she and her husband, Lasma Ram alias Laxman Ram, worked as labourers.
She claimed that the accused branded her as a “dayan" (witch), assaulted them, grabbed their house and agricultural land before driving them out of the property, The Indian Express reported. Sugna said in her complaint that the relatives are now demanding Rs 20 lakh to allow them to return to the village. The victim alleged that around a dozen relatives cut her hair, beat her, and tore her clothes. As per the complaint, accessed by The Indian Express, the relatives told her: “You killed Mana, you ate him as a witch; and you also ate Mana’s son Prabhu as a witch." She claimed that they had taken possession of her house, which was registered in her husband’s name.
“My husband and I are not being allowed to return. They have illegally ploughed our land and occupied our house. They have demanded Rs 10 lakh each for the two deaths as compensation before allowing us back into the village, threatening to kill us otherwise," she alleged. Sugna also attached the details of the land that had allegedly been grabbed by the accused. Property Dispute Comes To Light Pindwara SHO Chail Singh Chouhan said the accused are Laxman Ram’s relative and the fresh dispute arises from a 15-year-old property-related dispute. “Most people here are engaged in mining: Mana died about six months ago and Prabhu about 2.5 months ago – both from silicosis. Mana was Laxman Ram’s uncle," SHO Chouhan said, according to The Indian Express.
An FIR has been lodged under the relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS). A further investigation remains underway.
