(Representational image) Concerns over job security at Meta have once again come into focus after an employee claimed she had decided against having children while working at the company due to fears of future layoffs. The post, shared anonymously on Blind, came amid continuing concerns among employees following multiple rounds of job cuts and organisational changes at the tech giant. Meta’s latest round of performance-based layoffs affected nearly 3,600 employees, while some workers have also been reassigned to the company’s Applied AI division as part of internal restructuring.
In her post, the employee described a conversation with her husband that led her to rethink plans for starting a family. “I gave up on having kids while I’m at Meta," the woman wrote on Blind, an anonymous platform where verified employees discuss workplace issues, compensation and layoffs. “It’s insane that I’m even writing this, but after a talk with my husband, the realisation finally hit me… I have to give up on having a kid while I’m at Meta," she elaborated. ‘No Guarantee I’ll Still Be Employed’ The employee said uncertainty about her future at the company was the main reason behind her decision. According to her, there is no certainty that she would still be employed by the time she returned from maternity leave. “There is absolutely zero guarantee I’ll still be employed here by next year, let alone by the time I’d actually return from mat leave," she wrote. She also cited concerns about compensation and overall stability at the company.
“The company’s dynamics, entirely unstable TC, and complete lack of job security" have made planning for a family difficult, she said. Without confidence in a steady income, the prospect of having children felt unrealistic, according to the employee. If your job makes you postpone life, is the TC worth it? pic.twitter.com/i7xchsaRkM— Blind (@JoinBlind) August 6, 2026 ‘My Biological Clock Is Ticking’ The woman also expressed concern about delaying parenthood because of her career situation. “The sad part is my biological clock is ticking, and it’s ticking fast. What if because of this stupid job I’m never able to have kids?" the Meta employee wondered. Post Sparks Debate Online After screenshots of the post were shared on X, it triggered discussions about work-life balance, job insecurity and declining birth rates. “This has been happening for a long time. It’s why birth rates are low," one person wrote. Another user commented, “It’s underdiscussed how ephemeral job security can be. If you get fired from Meta at 30, you may go down like $200k in yearly salary; it can be straight to fast food work.
