Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju on Friday mounted a strong defence of Home Minister Amit Shah in Lok Sabha amid continued Opposition protests in Parliament, saying Shah attends the House every day and warning that the Opposition would not be able to withstand his reply when he speaks. Read Full Story Rijiju's remarks came as the Opposition demanded the Union Home Minister's presence in Parliament and a statement from him over the July 20 police action against protesters marching towards Parliament over the NEET paper leak row.

Proceedings in both Houses have been repeatedly disrupted over the issue. "They create a ruckus and then disappear. Home Minister Amit Shah comes to Parliament early in the morning and returns only late at night. He remains in Parliament throughout the day. The way they are behaving is wrong," Rijiju said. "I want to make another point. Home Minister Amit Shah is a person whose very name sends fear among terrorists and extremists. When the discussion begins and Home Minister Amit Shah gives his reply, you will not be able to withstand hearing it," he added.

Rejecting the Opposition's demand that Shah appear in the House, Rijiju said a minister attends proceedings when a matter concerning his or her ministry is taken up. "You cannot dictate which minister should come to the House or who should answer. That will be decided by the Chair and the government," he said. After the Lok Sabha was adjourned, Rijiju, who has been at the forefront of the government's response to the Opposition protests in both Houses, met Shah inside Parliament. PARLIAMENT ADJOURNED AMID PROTESTS The Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha were adjourned for the day on Friday amid continued opposition protests over the NEET paper leak and alleged theft of donations at the Ram temple in Ayodhya.

Amid the uproar, the Lok Sabha passed the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development (Amendment) Bill, 2026 without debate, while listed papers and reports of parliamentary committees were tabled. With sloganeering continuing, both Houses were eventually adjourned until Monday. Ends
