The deceased have been identified as Sirjana (22) and Rita (23), who were relatives and were reportedly in a romantic relationship.
According to the Yelahanka police, preliminary investigations indicate that the two had been facing resistance from family members and society over their desire to marry each other. During questioning, family members told police that Sirjana and Rita wanted to get married but were unable to secure acceptance for their relationship. Investigators said the two grew up together in Nepal and shared a close bond from childhood. Their relationship had reportedly drawn criticism in their native village, prompting relatives to bring them to Bengaluru. Despite living separately after moving to the city, the women remained in regular contact. Police said Rita was residing in Frazer Town, while Sirjana lived in Jakkur, and the two met several times each week.
According to investigators, both women attended a family lunch on Sunday where discussions about marriage took place. During the conversation, they allegedly expressed concern that society would never allow them to live together. Police believe the continued opposition to their relationship caused emotional distress and may have led them to take the extreme step. The bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination and were later handed over to the families. Further investigation is underway.
