Police said the accused first pushed his daughter, causing her to fall to the ground. The accused then picked up a wooden peg used for tethering cattle and struck the victim on the head in a fit of rage. The blow left the teenager critically injured, with severe bleeding from her head and ear.
Family members immediately rushed her to a nearby private hospital. Given the seriousness of her injuries, doctors referred her to a hospital in Varanasi for advanced treatment. However, the 17-year-old succumbed to her injuries while being taken to the city. The teenager's death plunged the family into mourning. According to her relatives, the victim had recently enrolled in a bachelor's degree course and was looking forward to continuing her education.
Following a complaint lodged by the family, police registered a case against Rajesh and arrested him. Officials said further legal proceedings are underway, and the exact sequence of events is being investigated.
