The ongoing student protest in Jharkhand entered its fourteenth day, with student leaders forming an eleven-member delegation to engage in talks with the state government. The delegation includes eight students, one lawyer, and two technical experts, seeking direct dialogue to resolve their grievances. Social activist Sonam Wangchuk clarified that protesting leader Devendra Nath Mahato only ended his water fast upon request and has not broken his hunger strike, continuing his protest at Ranchi alongside four other fast-striking students.
Meanwhile, political developments intensified surrounding the agitation. Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi spoke with the protesting students via telephone, expressing support for their demands and promising to raise the issue in Parliament while criticizing the education system. Concurrently, Bharatiya Janata Party MP Nishikant Dubey issued an ultimatum to the Hemant Soren-led Jharkhand government, threatening to join the students' hunger strike if no resolution is reached by August 13.
