The Hyderabad Food Adulteration Surveillance Team and food safety officials raided 13 spice processing units across Hyderabad, seizing nearly 25 tonnes of adulterated spices. Authorities arrested three individuals and registered three criminal cases, including charges of culpable homicide under Section 110 BNS. Investigators revealed that adulterated spices contained industrial dyes, fabric dyes, and talcum powder to artificially increase weight and enhance visual appearance.
Food safety officials warned that consuming these chemicals poses severe risks of liver and kidney damage, digestive disorders, and long-term cancer risks. In 140 days, officials conducted 659 raids, registering 202 FIRs and seizing 246 tonnes of adulterated food.
