Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday (August 6, 2026) urged Indians to mark Handloom Day, which falls on Friday, by sharing videos of their favourite handloom products. Posting on his Instagram account, Mr. Modi was seen handling various pieces of handloom material from different parts of the country.
He recalled that the Swadeshi movement of boycotting foreign goods in favour of Indian goods was launched on August 7, 1905. He urged people to remember the handloom workers who worked on small looms. “Just as you celebrated Friendship Day recently, do mark Handloom Day and share with the world the excellence and variety of India’s Handlooms,” he said.
“Let’s make India’s handloom diversity popular. Share your videos with your favourite handloom products, including GRWM videos. Don’t forget to use #NationalHandloomDay,” he said. GRWM
(Get Ready With Me) is a popular Internet trend.
