Continuous rainfall over the past two days in Bhutan and adjoining regions has triggered severe flooding in Assam's Darrang and Udalguri districts. Officials said rising water levels in the Pagladia River caused an embankment breach, inundating several villages, including Fuhurabari, Dofalapota, Kathpuri, Aonajuli, Majgaon, Gelabil and Begenabari. Roads, link roads and embankments have been damaged, cutting off access to multiple areas, while large stretches of agricultural land remain submerged.
The Assam government has attributed the flash floods to heavy rainfall in neighbouring Bhutan, with authorities closely monitoring the situation.
