In a major milestone for the Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL), the first railway rake carrying coal from its Naini Coal Mine in Odisha reached the Singareni Thermal Power Plant (STPP) at Jaipur in Mancherial district on Thursday after travelling 1,131 km. The inaugural rake, loaded at the Hindol railway siding near the Naini Mine, transported about 4,000 tonnes of premium G-10 grade coal in 59 BOXN wagons to Telangana, according to an SCCL press release.
The coal will be used to meet the State’s growing power generation requirements in accordance with the Telangana government’s directives. The consignment marked the first transportation of coal from an SCCL-owned mine outside Telangana. The arrival of the rake was celebrated by officers and employees at the STPP. Deputy Chief Minister and Energy Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, currently on an official visit abroad, described the event as a historic achievement and congratulated the SCCL management and employees through a video message.
He said the State government was committed to strengthening SCCL and noted that it had recently enabled SCCL to secure the Tadicherla-II and the Manugur Dipside coal blocks. He expressed confidence that SCCL would diversify into the exploration of critical and rare earth
minerals while expanding its operations to other States and overseas. In a statement, SCCL Chairman and Managing Director Buddhaprakash Jyoti thanked the governments of Telangana and Odisha, Indian Railways, and the officers and employees for ensuring the successful transportation of the inaugural coal rake.
