(Source: X) Abaan Ahmed, the youngest son of former Samajwadi Party MP Atiq Ahmed, was killed in a road accident in Uttar Pradesh’s Jhansi on Thursday after the SUV he was travelling in crashed into a road divider. Another occupant also died in the crash, while three others sustained injuries. According to Jhansi Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) BB GTS Murti, the accident took place at around 10:30 am under the Poonch police station limits on the Jhansi-Kanpur Highway.
“The incident occurred around 10.30 am. A Hyundai Creta carrying five people was travelling at high speed when it lost control and rammed into a large road divider. Two occupants—Abaan, son of Atiq Ahmed from Prayagraj, and Sonu, son of Razaq from Prayagraj—died on the spot," the SSP said. Three other occupants of the vehicle were injured and are undergoing treatment at a government medical college. Police said all three are in stable condition. The SSP said he had spoken to both the injured passengers and the driver, identified as Zaid. “I have spoken to the three survivors and the driver, Zaid. He stated that he experienced a momentary blackout or dizziness, which led to the accident," Murti said, adding that further legal formalities would be completed after the victims’ families arrive.
According to police, Abaan was travelling to meet his elder brother, Ali Ahmed, who is currently lodged in jail in connection with an extortion case. Visuals from the accident site showed the severity of the crash, with the front portion of the Hyundai Creta completely mangled after it struck the divider. The killings, captured live on television, drew nationwide attention.
