Vizianagaram Superintendent of Police A.R. Damodar on Thursday said that the department was giving top priority to curb crime and as part of it wide publicity is being given on the consequences of police cases in subjects related to domestic violence, crime against women, consumption of drugs, alcohol and drink driving. He told The Hindu that the department had launched ‘Meetho- Mee SP’ programme to make people law abiding and good citizens.
“We have been distributing nearly three lakh pamphlets under this awareness programme. Our personnel will directly meet people under door-to-door programme. This will make parents to guide youngsters about the consequences with the involvement of crimes knowingly or unknowingly,” he added. Damodar said that young girls were being trapped in social media platforms as they would believe strangers also during chatting. He hoped that the parents would guide adult children to avoid social media and friendship with wrong doers.
He said that the department was getting positive feedback for the programme for all 30 police station limits. He said that cops got an opportunity for direct interaction with common people. Women Police Stations head and Deputy Superintendent of Police P.V. Narasimha Rao said that ‘Meetho-Mee SP’ programme caught the attention of the parents as well as students. He said that concept of prevention of the crime and protection of people from police cases would benefit the society.
Vizianagaram One Town Circle Inspector R.V.R.K. Choudary, Vizianagaram Two Town Circle Inspector T. Srinivasa Rao said that the innovative awareness programme was being taken up in high schools and colleges to make children to know about the risks involved with drink driving, ganja consumption, crime against women and children.
