Union Minister of State for Railways V. Somanna on Thursday met Union Home Minister Amit Shah and petitioned for the inclusion of the Kadugolla community in the Scheduled Tribes (ST) list. Referring to an earlier petition, Mr. Somanna said in his letter to Mr. Shah, “It has been informed by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) that the Office of the Registrar General of India (ORGI) has examined the proposal and forwarded it to the Ministry of Tribal Affairs.” He further said that the Kadugolla community is one of the most backward communities in Karnataka. “The inclusion of this community in the ST category would immensely contribute to their social, educational, and economic upliftment as per the vision of the Constitution,” the petition read. Somanna asked the Home Minister to give suitable directions for the inclusion of this community in the ST category.
