The expenditure covers visits made between February and July to countries. The figures, shared in a written reply by the MEA, also show that spending on the Prime Minister’s overseas visits has increased over the past five years.

Where Does The Money Go? According to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), the expenditure on the Prime Minister’s official foreign visits is met from the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) budget. While the government does not publish a detailed item-wise break-up of the expenditure, parliamentary replies and official information indicate that the spending generally covers the cost of chartered aircraft (Air India One), the official delegation accompanying the Prime Minister, security arrangements, the media contingent, and logistical and operational support required during overseas visits. The PMO also publishes visit-wise expenditure incurred on chartered flights used for the Prime Minister’s foreign visits.
Official hospitality extended during state visits, however, is often borne by the host country in accordance with diplomatic protocol. The PMO also maintains visit-wise details of chartered flight expenditure on its official website, while the overall expenses are borne by the MHA as part of official government expenditure. Which Countries Did PM Modi Visit In 2026? According to the PMO, PM Modi’s official foreign visits in 2026 included Malaysia, Israel, the UAE, the Netherlands, Sweden, Norway, Italy, France, Slovakia, Seychelles, Indonesia, Australia and New Zealand, among others. These visits were undertaken as part of bilateral engagements, multilateral summits and strategic meetings. The expenditure details were disclosed in Parliament in response to a question in the Rajya Sabha, offering a year-wise snapshot of the government’s spending on the Prime Minister’s overseas engagements.
