(Photo: AFP) Hours after the Bombay High Court convicted him in the 2013 sexual assault case, former Tehelka editor-in-chief Tarun Tejpal asserted that there was “so much evidence" in his favour that he could be “acquitted 10 times", while maintaining that the case against him was wrongful.
Calling the prosecution against him a “wrong case", Tejpal said he would continue to challenge the verdict through legal remedies. “This is a wrong case against me. We will fight back and I have faith in the judiciary," he said. The remarks came after the Bombay High Court reversed Tejpal’s 2021 acquittal by a Goa trial court, holding him guilty of sexually assaulting a junior colleague in a hotel elevator during the ThinkFest event in Goa in November 2013. Earlier, Tejpal had pleaded for leniency during the sentencing hearing, citing his age and family circumstances.
“I have a wife. I am 62 years old," he told the court while seeking a lighter sentence.
