The apologies follow the brief restriction of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Facebook video and concerns regarding child sexual abuse material, deepfake content, and paid promotions. Official meetings were held between Meta executives and IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, along with Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology officials, following a parliamentary panel summons warning of potential safe harbour protection reviews under Indian law.
Meta acknowledged lapses, including the promotion of certain content categories and algorithm-driven moderation errors.
