The former Delhi chief minister also took a swipe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, alleging that Meta was yielding to political pressure. “Don’t bow down to our Prime Minister so much. Else he will allow u to run only his own account in India," Kejriwal wrote.
The allegation comes close on the heels of Meta finding itself at the centre of another controversy involving PM Modi’s social media account. Earlier this week, a senior Meta executive apologised after an “error" temporarily restricted the prime minister’s post on Facebook. The executive said the restriction was inadvertent, restored the content after it was flagged, and apologised for the mistake, maintaining that the moderation action was not intentional. Kejriwal’s remarks seek to draw a contrast with that episode, suggesting that while Meta swiftly acknowledged and rectified the issue involving the Prime Minister’s account, it has neither explained nor responded to his complaints about the alleged restriction of his own account. Meta has not publicly responded to Kejriwal’s latest allegations. It also remains unclear whether any restrictions have officially been placed on his account. The development is likely to reignite debate over the functioning of global social media platforms in India and allegations of selective moderation.
