The Yogi Adityanath government in Uttar Pradesh has formally withdrawn and scrapped the Samajwadi Party-era madrasa salary bill introduced in 2016 during Akhilesh Yadav's tenure. The legislation proposed regular salaries for madrasa staff on par with basic and secondary school teachers. It included strict provisions that made delays in salary disbursement a criminal offense against officials, while granting madrasa employees protection from departmental inquiries or proceedings.
Governor Ram Naik and the central government flagged concerns over the bill, keeping it stalled with the President for nearly a decade. The state government has now formally withdrawn the bill from both houses of the state legislature, effectively ending the decade-long legislative issue.
