'We Are Fighting America, Europe's War Too': Netanyahu On Israel's Fight With Iran And Its Proxies Published By, Last Updated: June 03, 2026, 23:08 IST In an interview with CNBC, Netanyahu said Israel is confronting a global threat that goes beyond its borders. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu (AFP) Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said Israel’s war against Iran and its allied groups is not only its own fight, but also a battle on behalf of the United States and Europe. In an interview with CNBC published on Wednesday, Netanyahu said Israel is confronting a global threat that goes beyond its borders. “We’re faced with an enemy that wants to destroy our country, that wants to destroy your country, that wants to destroy free democracies everywhere and spread their terrorist ilk around the globe," he said. Netanyahu:When we fight Iran and its proxies, we are not only fighting our war.

At the same interview, Netanyahu said he and US President Donald Trump shared the goal of “disarming Hezbollah" and “demilitarising Lebanon". He accused the group of using civilians as cover for its operations. Hezbollah “puts all the citizens of Lebanon at gunpoint and uses Lebanon as a platform to launch terror missiles into our cities," he said. ‘Iran Playing With Fire’ Netanyahu also warned Iran that it was “playing with fire" following reported attacks on Kuwait. “Iran surely knows what the (US) president has said, that if necessary, there’ll be a full-scale return to military action," he said in the interview. “You know, it’s the president’s decision.
Israel is ready and the US forces are ready. I think Iran should take that into account. I think they are taking it into account but they’re playing with fire, that’s clear." His remarks come amid renewed hostilities across the region, including reported strikes involving Iran and Gulf states, despite earlier ceasefire efforts. Regional Tensions Persist The interview also came as Israeli and Lebanese officials prepared for another round of direct talks in Washington, aimed at reducing tensions between Israel and Hezbollah. The discussions mark the fourth round of US-brokered talks since fighting escalated on March 2, when Hezbollah entered the Middle East war on the side of its backer Iran with rocket fire at Israel. Hezbollah has opposed the negotiations. Despite diplomatic efforts, both sides have continued to exchange fire. Hezbollah said it carried out missile attacks on northern Israel on Wednesday, while Lebanon reported Israeli strikes in the south that killed at least nine people, including two paramedics.
