On the second anniversary of her departure from Bangladesh, former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina announced her plan to return to the country in December, stating she is prepared to face detention or prison to serve her people. Addressing media, Hasina asserted that the 2024 quota protests were used as a façade for an orchestrated regime change operation backed by interim leader Muhammad Yunus.
Her son, Sajeeb Wazed, warned that Bangladesh is becoming a rogue state and 'another Pakistan', citing the open presence of extremist groups and the release of convicted terrorists. Meanwhile, Dhaka-based journalist Maq Jalalani stated that Hasina was convicted in absentia and faces court proceedings upon her arrival, while defending the interim economic setup. India Today Global Editor Pranay Upadhaya highlighted ongoing international concerns regarding the safety of minorities in Bangladesh and questioned potential back-channel assurances behind Hasina's planned return.
