A Meta delegation led by Chief Global Affairs Officer Joel Kaplan met officials of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology in New Delhi following concerns over operational errors. During the 45-minute meeting with IT Ministry Secretary S Krishna, the government flagged issues including the temporary takedown of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's July 23 video, child sexual abuse content on Instagram, deepfakes, AI-generated misinformation, and compliance with IT rules.
Meta apologized for child safety lapses, deepfakes, operational errors, and restricting the Prime Minister's video. Parliamentary Panel on IT Chairperson Nishikant Dubey warned that Mark Zuckerberg must apologize within three days or Meta risks losing safe harbor protection under Section 79 of the IT Act.
