AHINDA- a Kannada acronym for minorities, backward classes and Dalits- has long been associated with former chief minister Siddaramaiah. The consolidation of these communities behind Congress proved decisive in the last Assembly election. With Siddaramaiah no longer at the helm, DK Shivakumar will have to reassure these sections while maintaining close coordination with his predecessor and his supporters. What About Karnataka’s Complex Caste Equations? The new chief minister must also carefully navigate the aspirations of Karnataka’s dominant communities, especially the Vokkaligas and Lingayats.
Many Congress leaders believe DK Shivakumar’s elevation could further strengthen the party’s support among Vokkaligas, particularly in the Old Mysuru region.
