As part of the 12th Handloom Day celebrations, JSS Mysuru Urban Haat is organising its first-ever four-day District-Level Handloom Fair from August 6 to 9 at its premises in the City. Organised with the sponsorship of the Office of the Development Commissioner (Handlooms), Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, the Handloom Fair will be inaugurated by Krishnaraja Assembly constituency MLA T.S. Srivatsa at JSS Mysuru Urban Haat at Hebbal Industrial Area in Mysuru at 4 p.m. on Thursday.
The event will be attended by B.N. Veena, KAS, Additional Commissioner, Mysuru City Corporation, and Somashekar B.S., Deputy Director, Department of Handlooms and Textiles, Mysuru, as guests. A press statement here said the four-day fair will bring together handloom cooperative societies and skilled weavers from various districts of Karnataka, showcasing and offering for sale an extensive range of authentic handloom products. “Visitors will have the opportunity to explore and purchase premium-quality handloom sarees, dress materials, shawls, towels, home furnishings, and a wide variety of traditional handwoven textiles—all under one roof”.
By purchasing directly from the weavers, customers can enjoy high-quality, authentic handloom products without the involvement of intermediaries, while simultaneously supporting the livelihoods of Karnataka’s handloom artisans and preserving the State’s rich weaving heritage, the statement said. To mark the occasion of Handloom Day, a series of vibrant cultural programmes reflecting Karnataka’s rich artistic traditions will be presented every evening throughout the fair. The event will also honour senior and accomplished handloom weavers in recognition of their invaluable contribution to the handloom sector.
Entry to the fair is free, and complimentary parking facilities will also be available for the convenience of visitors. The statement has invited families, handloom enthusiasts, and the general public to attend the fair and extend support to the local weavers by purchasing genuine handloom products, and celebrate India’s rich and enduring handloom tradition.
