The Cyberabad Municipal Corporation (CMC) is considering setting up a dedicated mechanism to address grievances of Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribe (ST) communities, as part of a series of welfare and development measures reviewed by the civic body on Wednesday. The proposal was discussed during a meeting with Telangana State Commission for SCs and STs Chairman Bakki Venkataiah, CMC Commissioner G.
Srijana, zonal commissioners, heads of departments and other officials concerned. Among the issues discussed was the development of SC/ST colonies through focused sub-plans, including the provision of basic amenities. Officials also reviewed the provision of facilities and approach roads to burial grounds and the development of multipurpose function halls. Welfare measures for sanitation workers and street vendors also figured in the discussions, which included support for street vendors, provision of personal protective equipment (PPE) kits and insurance coverage for sanitation workers, and health insurance for permanent and outsourced employees.
Scholarships and livelihood opportunities for members of SC/ST communities were also discussed alongside the proposed dedicated grievance redressal mechanism. The meeting also reviewed reservation provisions for SC/ST
communities in development works and tenders, backlog vacancies, compliance with reservation rosters and financial allocations. The need for effective implementation, monitoring and coordination among departments was also discussed.
