The Secunderabad Cantonment Board (SCB) is set to undertake a comprehensive energy audit of its major establishments and civic infrastructure as part of efforts to improve energy efficiency, reduce consumption and work towards carbon neutrality. The board, which functions under the Ministry of Defence, has invited Expressions of Interest (EOIs) from qualified agencies to conduct the audit and recommend measures for energy conservation, integration of renewable energy and overall optimisation of energy use across the Cantonment. According to the EOI issued by the SCB on August 4, the exercise will assess existing energy consumption patterns across buildings, utilities and public infrastructure and identify areas where energy is being used inefficiently.
The selected agency will also be expected to suggest technological, operational and behavioural interventions to reduce energy consumption. A key objective of the exercise is to prepare an implementable roadmap for the Cantonment’s transition towards carbon neutrality. The audit is also expected to establish benchmarks that can subsequently be used for monitoring, verification and assessment of energy performance. The scope of the audit will extend across several categories of SCB infrastructure, including administrative and office buildings, street lighting systems, pump houses and tube wells, schools, hospitals and dispensaries, community halls, staff quarters and other civic assets.
The selected agency will carry out physical inspections and measurements of energy-consuming systems and assess the performance of streetlights, pumps, motors, heating, ventilation and air-conditioning (HVAC) systems, lighting and other infrastructure. Standard energy audit instruments will be used for recording data. The exercise will also examine the potential for expanding renewable energy use in the cantonment. This will include assessing the feasibility of installing rooftop solar systems on properties belonging to the board and recommending the integration of solar and other renewable energy technologies.
The agency will also study the feasibility of adopting advanced technologies for improving energy performance. Following the assessment, the agency will identify low, medium and high-cost energy-saving measures and carry out a cost-benefit analysis. The proposed interventions will be prioritised and incorporated into an implementation roadmap for the Board.
