The Karnataka government on Wednesday appointed 2003-batch IAS officer Jaffer P.C. as the Managing Director of Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL), replacing Ravishankar J., who has been transferred. Jaffer had been overseeing the corporation as Managing Director on an additional-charge basis since late June after Mr. Ravishankar proceeded on leave. Before taking charge at BMRCL, he was serving as Secretary (Budget and Resources) in the State Finance Department.
Ravishankar had led BMRCL for nearly a year after assuming office in July 2025. His transfer comes at a crucial stage for Namma Metro, with the long-awaited opening of the Pink Line’s first operational stretch expected shortly. The 7.5-km elevated southern section between Kalena Agrahara and Tavarekere is likely to be commissioned in late August or September, 2026.
The remaining 13.8-km underground corridor extending to Nagawara is targeted for completion by March 2027. As he takes charge, Mr. Jaffer inherits several critical challenges linked to the city’s expanding metro network. One of his immediate priorities will be accelerating construction on delayed corridors, particularly the Blue Line to Kempegowda International Airport, where slow progress on key civil works, including Package 2 between Central Silk Board and the airport, has affected project timelines.
The new Managing Director will also be tasked with improving project execution and ensuring upcoming metro corridors are delivered within revised deadlines after repeatedly missing deadlines in recent years.
