Only a day after a major fire at a hotel in the Malviya Nagar area of Delhi claimed 21 lives, at least three patients died and over 15 people got injured after a fire at a hospital in Bihar’s Muzaffarpur early Thursday morning.
The fire is believed to have started due to an electrical short circuit and rapidly spread through the ICU, where several critically ill patients were undergoing treatment. As the blaze intensified, dense smoke rapidly filled several areas of the hospital, creating panic among patients, attendants, and medical staff. Rescue personnel and emergency teams promptly arrived at the scene at nearly 3 AM and began evacuating patients from the affected sections to ensure their safety. District administration officials also reached the hospital to oversee rescue and evacuation operations. This comes just a day after a major fire incident in Delhi’s Malviya Nagar claimed at least 21 lives and left several others injured. The blaze erupted in a building housing a restaurant on the lower floors and a hotel above, triggering a large-scale rescue operation.
Several people were forced to jump from upper floors to escape the flames as thick smoke engulfed the structure. Preliminary investigations into the Malviya Nagar incident pointed to possible fire safety lapses, prompting authorities to launch a detailed probe and initiate legal action against those responsible for operating the establishment. The back-to-back fire tragedies have once again raised concerns over adherence to fire safety norms in commercial buildings and healthcare facilities across the country.
