An Air India flight operating from Phuket to Delhi experienced severe midair turbulence, dropping nearly 300 feet in altitude and leaving 17 passengers and crew members injured. Visuals inside the cabin revealed cracked interior panels and damaged overhead bins caused by the violent drop. Following the incident, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) ordered a comprehensive safety investigation, securing both the flight data recorder and cockpit voice recorder to determine if a technical glitch was involved.
Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu was briefed on the situation and visited injured passengers in hospital to assure them of assistance. Onboard passengers recounted moments of extreme panic, describing how unbelted travelers were thrown against the roof and luggage fell onto people, resulting in severe injuries and bleeding. Passengers raised serious concerns regarding the flight crew's handling, alleging a lack of emergency landing procedures and delayed medical attention upon landing in Delhi, while praising cabin crew members for assisting victims despite sustaining injuries themselves.
