The State government should warn the BCC of strict action against it if doesn't follow the directions. If it delays this further, it should supersede the urban local body,” said Vatal Nagaraj, Kannada activist, in Belagavi on Wednesday (August 5). “It seems the delay is deliberate.
Such a delay is not acceptable. It is nothing but sheer arrogance. We strongly condemn such arrogant behaviour of the BJP, the ruling party in BCC. They have ignored the four-month long agitation by Kannada organisations in Belagavi,” Mr Nagaraj said. He added that the Kannada organisations had decided to go ahead with the Karnataka bandh on August 13 against releasing water to Tamil Nadu, despite the appeal by Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar and other leaders to not do so.
“We want to show that Kannada organisations are with farmers. If farmers suffer due to policies and actions of the State government, we will protest against them, he said. Another demand by the Kannada organisations was that the State government start work on the Mahadayi basin projects,” he said. The pro-Mahadayi movement has become restricted to north Karnataka, Mr. Nagaraj noted, adding that it will be expanded to southern districts.
Earlier, at a meeting with Kannada organisations, Mr. Nagaraj urged them to participate in the Karnataka bandh. Some farmers leaders were present. Kannada Organisations Central Committee president Ashok Chandargi, Kitturu Karnataka Sene president Mahadeva Talawar, Gadi Nadu Kannadigara Sene State president Balaram Masenatti, Kannada Sene district president Raju Kola and others were present.
