Congress MLA Yashavantarayagoud V Patil announced in Indi on Wednesday (August 5, 2026) that he had decided to withdraw his resignation to the post of MLA, following advice of his followers. He had tendered his resignation after saying that he was upset at not being made a minister.
At a meeting of his followers, Mr. Patil said that a large number of his followers and well wishers had advised him to continue serving the constituency as a legislator, despite not being inducted into the Cabinet. He said he would write a letter to the Assembly secretary saying he would withdraw it.
He said he would explain the reasons behind his decision at a press meet in Vijayapura on August 6. Earlier, he had said that he was resigning from his Assembly membership as he felt that there was no place for loyalty and honesty in the Congress. "Senior leaders had promised me (a Cabinet berth) in 2023.
But they didn't keep the promise. They forget that no MLA from Indi has become a minister since Independence. Vijayapura district politics has become disgusting. I will not continue as an MLA for any reason," he had said.
