The Centre has told the Rajya Sabha that studies found E20 fuel does not cause abnormal wear and tear or major performance issues in vehicles, including legacy models. According to the government, no problems were reported in drivability, metal compatibility or plastic compatibility. It said only some BS3 vehicles manufactured before 2016 may require replacement of certain rubber parts and gaskets during routine servicing.
The government added that vehicle mileage depends on several factors, although studies showed a 2 to 6% drop in fuel efficiency. It also said no widespread or substantiated complaints regarding engine failure, fuel pump issues or performance problems linked to E20 fuel have been received.
