According to the government, Meta chief Mark Zuckerberg has issued an apology regarding child sexual abuse material (CSAM), deepfakes, and operating errors on its platforms. Government officials informed Meta that safe harbor under the IT Act is not applicable and that the platform remains accountable for content distribution.
The government emphasized that big tech companies must ensure swift removal of objectionable content and prevent platform misuse. While complaints are often raised by the public and officials, delayed content removal remains a key issue due to servers located outside India. The government reiterated that platforms operating in India must take immediate responsibility for hosted content.
