Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has issued an official apology following a parliamentary IT committee meeting led by MP Nishikant Dubey regarding the temporary removal of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's video. The Indian government maintained a firm stance, warning Meta that it is not covered under the intermediary definition and that its safe harbour protection under the IT Act could be withdrawn if an apology was not tendered.
Zuckerberg personally apologised for the technical error and admitted that payments were made to boost certain content on the platform. The government had previously challenged Meta's explanation of a technical glitch, demanding a written apology. Following the committee's directive, Meta quickly issued the apology and expressed regret over the operating errors.
