(IMAGE: PTI) India on Wednesday strongly rejected Pakistan’s remarks made during its annual “Youm-e-Istehsal" observance, describing them as “political absurdity" and accusing Islamabad of spreading “malicious propaganda" against the country. Responding to media queries on comments made by Pakistan Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said the Union Territories of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh “are, have always been, and shall forever remain an integral and inalienable part of India." “India categorically rejects the political absurdity and futile attempts by Pakistan to observe the so-called Youm-e-Istehsal to spread malicious propaganda against India," Jaiswal said.
He asserted that the constitutional changes made on August 5, 2019—when the Centre abrogated Article 370 and reorganised the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir into the Union Territories of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh—were “entirely an internal matter of India." According to the MEA, the decisions have brought “unprecedented socio-economic development, good governance, and democratic empowerment" to the people of the region, adding that Pakistan has “no locus standi" to comment on India’s internal affairs. The response came after Pakistan observed “Youm-e-Istehsal" (“Day of Exploitation"), an annual event marking its protest against India’s August 5, 2019 decision to revoke Jammu and Kashmir’s special status. The MEA also accused Pakistan of attempting to divert global attention from its own human rights record and alleged support for terrorism. “Pakistan’s desperate attempts to peddle falsehoods are intended solely to deflect international attention from its own dismal human rights record and its status as the global epicenter of terrorism," Jaiswal said.
