The Tamil Nadu Assembly budget session witnessed intense debate as the TVK government presented its financial proposals while facing sharp criticism from opposition DMK leader Udayanidhi Stalin. The budget prioritises key sectors including school education, municipal administration, sports development, anti-drug initiatives in schools, and artificial intelligence, including plans for a ten crore rupee AI training institute. Notable social welfare announcements include a one-gram gold ring for newborns in government hospitals, eight grams of gold with a silk saree for brides, and helmets and bicycles for youth.
Furthermore, the Tamil Nadu government reiterated its strong opposition to NEET and urged the central government to scrap the examination. DMK leaders alleged that the TVK regime merely repackaged existing DMK schemes under new names, rating the budget a zero. Conversely, the ruling administration accused the previous DMK government of financial irregularities and siphoning off tender funds.
