(Photo: PTI file) The protest by job aspirants over alleged irregularities in the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) and the Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC) entered its 12th day on Wednesday, with the state government reaching out for talks in an attempt to break the deadlock. Officials, acting on behalf of Chief Minister Hemant Soren, invited a five-member delegation of protesters for discussions at the Chief Minister’s residence. However, the aspirants said they would first deliberate among themselves before responding to the proposal and sought two hours to decide whether to attend the meeting. Government Reaches Out Ahead Of ‘Tiranga March’ Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Kumar Rajat and Additional District Magistrate (ADM) Dhananjay Kumar visited the protest site at Jaipal Singh Munda Stadium to convey the government’s invitation.
The outreach comes just days before the protesters’ proposed ‘Tiranga March’ and their planned statewide gherao of the Jharkhand Assembly on August 10, signalling an effort by the government to resolve the issue before the Assembly’s Monsoon Session. What Are The Protesters Demanding? For nearly two weeks, aspirants have been demanding Cancellation of the 14th JPSC Civil Services Examination Structural reforms in both the JPSC and JSSC A probe into the alleged recruitment irregularities by either the CBI or an independent panel of retired High Court judges from outside Jharkhand. JPSC-JSSC Reforms Manch spokesperson Jivan Kumar said the indefinite hunger strike was launched to intensify pressure on the government to act on the students’ demands. Protesters Hope For Direct Dialogue Sabita Kumari, one of the protesters on hunger strike, said the aspirants were “forced" to take the extreme step because the government had not acted on their demands. Another protester, Habiba, appealed directly to Chief Minister Hemant Soren, saying, “The Chief Minister is like our guardian. When children remain hungry, a guardian also feels the pain. We hope he will listen to our grievances and deliver justice." She added that while the government claims to be sensitive to the issue, the protesters now want concrete action rather than assurances.
