In a meeting between government officials and Meta representatives, the government emphasised that social media platforms must comply with the law of the land. Officials clarified that the meeting was not intended to restrict freedom of expression or interfere with platform operations. However, they highlighted the need for strict compliance with existing rules, pointing to concerns over the alleged misuse of platforms, abusive content, selective enforcement, and the arbitrary removal of a post by the Prime Minister reaching out to students.
Meta representatives responded that they possess stringent internal rules and fact-checking mechanisms, maintaining that no deliberate misuse occurs. Another round of meetings is scheduled.
