The Delhi government has swung into action following the deadly Malviya Nagar hotel fire and constituted a joint committee to investigate safety violations and inspect similar establishments across the capital.
According to sources, teams comprising officials from the district administration, Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), Delhi Police and the Power Department will begin inspections across Delhi on Thursday.
The move comes amid growing scrutiny of guest houses and bed-and-breakfast (B&B) establishments following the tragedy that claimed 21 lives.
As part of the exercise, authorities have already identified 18 properties in Malviya Nagar that are likely to come under the scanner.
Officials are expected to examine compliance with fire safety norms, building regulations, licensing conditions and power connections.
