The company says the model will be trained on a cluster of 10,000 Nvidia Blackwell GPUs and is being built for applications spanning coding, cybersecurity, scientific research and enterprise AI. While Sarvam has now secured funding from Nvidia, it is no stranger to the chipmaker's AI ecosystem. Co-founder Pratyush Kumar revealed to ET that the startup has spent years building on Nvidia's AI stack and has even contributed improvements to the company's software, including parts of its training stack.
He described the investment as a natural extension of an already deep technical partnership. But Sarvam isn't just trying to build another AI model. Its long-term vision is to create a complete AI ecosystem in India. The company wants to build everything from large foundation models and the computing systems needed to power them, to AI tools that businesses, developers and government agencies can use in everyday work. The company is also focusing on Indian languages and local use cases, while expanding into areas such as coding assistants, cybersecurity, scientific research, defence and enterprise AI. Essentially, Sarvam's goal is to build everything needed for AI in India. It wants to build the technology as well as the AI products that people, businesses and governments can use. Sarvam is also part of the Indian government's IndiaAI Mission.
