(Photos: Social Media) More than a year after the wedding of Indore businessman Raja Raghuvanshi, whose alleged murder during his honeymoon in Meghalaya shocked the country, a dispute over unpaid catering charges has reached a police station. According to news agency PTI, the caterer who managed the food arrangements for Raja Raghuvanshi and Sonam Raghuvanshi’s wedding has sought police intervention to recover Rs 2,82,550, alleging that repeated attempts to secure payment from both families have failed. However, police declined to take action, stating that the matter pertains to a contractual payment dispute and falls under the civil domain.

Raja Raghuvanshi Case: Caterer Says Rs 2.82 Lakh Still Outstanding Hitesh Rohira, who runs a catering business in Indore, told PTI that he had been jointly engaged by both the bride’s and groom’s families for the wedding celebrations. According to Rohira, the total catering contract was valued at Rs 11,42,550. While Rs 8,60,000 had been paid, he said Rs 2,82,550 remains unpaid. The caterer said he repeatedly contacted Vipin Raghuvanshi, Raja’s elder brother, and Govind Raghuvanshi, Sonam’s elder brother, requesting payment of the balance amount. Rohira also told PTI that he had served a legal notice through his lawyer on April 1, but even that failed to resolve the dispute. Sonam Raghuvanshi Case: Families Blame Each Other Vipin Raghuvanshi denied that his family owed the caterer any money, saying Govind Raghuvanshi had originally hired the vendor and that the groom’s family had no outstanding liability.

Govind Raghuvanshi, meanwhile, maintained that most of the catering bill had already been cleared. He also questioned why the vendor waited nearly 15 months after the wedding to raise the issue, suggesting the complaint appeared to be more about attracting attention than pursuing a genuine financial claim. With both families refusing responsibility, the dispute remains unresolved. According to the PTI report, police officials refused to register a case or intervene, stating that the disagreement concerns payment under a private contract and is therefore a civil dispute rather than a criminal offence. Raja Raghuvanshi Murder Trial Continues The payment dispute has surfaced even as legal proceedings continue in the high-profile Raja Raghuvanshi murder case. The Supreme Court recently set aside the bail granted to Sonam Raghuvanshi, the prime accused in the case, directing her to surrender before the trial court within three weeks. The court held that Sonam was not entitled to remain on bail at this stage, observing that her earlier bail pleas had already been rejected on merits and that continued release could affect the ongoing trial. However, it granted her liberty to seek fresh bail if the trial is not concluded within six months.
