Overwhelmed by grief, Asraf allegedly shot himself dead at girlfriend Liron Barda’s grave. He was found dead on Saturday, three days after he celebrated his brother’s wedding. Although he seemed happy, he was “struggling" from inside, according to Israeli media.

Asraf had told his mother that there was nobody who could replace Liron and that there was no one to “cheer" him up. According to the Ynet News, citing the deceased’s family, they were “soulmates" and “inseparable". His sister, Lihi, revealed that Asraf had on Thursday asked her to spend time with his friends, which was an unusual request from his side. “He told me how proud he was of me, that I was a combat soldier and that I was his pride. I didn’t understand why he was telling me all of that." On Saturday, the family celebrated Shabbat Chatan, a ritual to honour the groom. After the event was over, they were unable to find Asraf, prompting them to initiate a search for him. “We thought about where he might have gone and said we’d check Liron’s grave. At first I didn’t see him. Then I saw him lying there. I screamed, ‘Bar, get up!’ Only then did I understand what had happened.

At first I was afraid someone had killed him. I couldn’t understand what I was seeing," Lihi said. A Childhood Friendship That Ended In Tragedy According to the deceased’s family, Liron and Asraf had been childhood friends and shared an extraordinary friendship. On the night of October 7, 2023 –– the day Hamas unleashed the ‘biggest attack’ on Israel in decades, resulting in over a thousand deaths –– Liron was managing bars at the Nova festival. After the assault, her friends urged her to flee, but she refused to leave, determined to help the injured. She was murdered by Hamas while providing first aid to victims. After Liron was killed, Asraf lost his sleep. “He didn’t talk, eat or laugh. Gradually he began to recover. He started laughing again, talking to people and spreading Liron’s love. He organised meals for soldiers in her memory, and during Passover he launched a campaign to distribute care packages to families in need. He was someone who was always helping others," Lihi said.
