The Northeast is expected to bear the brunt of the spell, while several states in north, central, east, west and south India are also likely to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall. Recent IMD updates have also placed red alerts over Assam, Kerala and Madhya Pradesh because of the risk of extremely heavy rainfall and associated disruptions.
Northeast To Receive The Heaviest Rainfall Assam and Meghalaya are expected to remain the country’s rainfall hotspot, with heavy to very heavy rainfall forecast at isolated places and the possibility of extremely heavy showers in some areas. Arunachal Pradesh is also likely to witness heavy to very heavy rainfall. The IMD has warned that intense rainfall over the region could lead to localised flooding, waterlogging and disruption in vulnerable areas. Heavy Rain Likely Across North And East India According to a report in India Today, active monsoon is expected to bring heavy to very heavy rainfall to isolated places in Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand. Heavy rain is also forecast over Delhi, Chandigarh, Haryana, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir. Across eastern India, Bihar, Odisha, Jharkhand, Gangetic West Bengal and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim are likely to experience heavy rainfall. Odisha, along with Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim, could receive very heavy rainfall at isolated locations. West And South India To Remain Wet The wet spell is expected to continue across western India, with Konkan and Goa and parts of Maharashtra forecast to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall.
Kerala, Coastal Karnataka and Interior Karnataka are also likely to witness heavy showers, while Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh are expected to receive heavy rainfall. IMD has additionally issued a red alert for Kerala and Madhya Pradesh due to the risk of extremely heavy rain in isolated areas. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds are also expected over Kerala, parts of Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Telangana. Why The Monsoon Remains So Active According to the IMD, several weather systems are working together to sustain the vigorous monsoon conditions. The monsoon trough currently extends from Anupgarh through Delhi, Shahjahanpur and Basti before stretching eastwards towards Nagaland. Multiple cyclonic circulations are also active over north Haryana, northeast Rajasthan, south Uttar Pradesh, northwest Bihar and northeast Assam. Another circulation persists over the west-central Bay of Bengal and adjoining coastal Andhra Pradesh, while a separate circulation over South Interior Karnataka is enhancing rainfall across the southern peninsula. The interaction of these systems is maintaining a steady supply of moisture and supporting widespread rainfall across large parts of the country.
