The newly accessed visuals, shot from inside the Airbus A320neo, show the aftermath of the violent jolt that caused the aircraft to suddenly lose around 300 feet in altitude. One video focuses on the cabin roof, revealing damaged and displaced ceiling panels. Another video captured the passengers panicking inside the aircraft moments after the turbulence struck. More visuals showed the intensity of the turbulence, which left several passengers and cabin crew injured. The clips also capture the tense atmosphere inside the cabin after the incident, as passengers assess the damage and the situation around them. The incident triggered a detailed investigation by India’s aviation regulator.
Some photographs taken by the passengers on the Air India plane also showed visible impact marks on the roof of the cabin. The pictures highlighted the force with which the aircraft was shaken. Another photo showed some damage near the switches inside the aircraft after the plane suffered massive turbulence mid-air. Cabin Ceiling Damage Highlights Force of Turbulence Sections of the overhead ceiling panels came loose, with visible damage to the interior roof of the aircraft. Soon after the Air India plane landed at the Delhi airport, one passenger alleged that the aircraft tilted sharply during the incident, and that people were thrown from their seats. The passenger said that at least one passenger suffered a ruptured eardrum because of the sudden movement. Another passenger said that the plane suddenly went very low, due to which some passengers hit their heads on the overhead area and suffered injuries. Air India Aircraft Lost Around 300 Feet Mid-Air According to PTI, the Air India Airbus A320neo, operating flight AI2379 from Phuket to Delhi, experienced a sudden loss of approximately 300 feet in altitude on Tuesday morning before landing safely at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport at 11.07 am. The aircraft was carrying 137 passengers and eight crew members. A senior Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) official told PTI that the Pilot-in-Command reported severe injuries to one cabin crew member, injuries to another crew member and minor injuries to a few passengers following the sudden altitude loss.
